A new bill was introduced on March 5th, 2010 (see below: March 12th, 1930 Gandhi's march to banish the Salt tax in India exactly 80 years ago) by State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz that will ban the use of salt in New York restaurants.
The bill A10129 states:
“No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food for consumption by customers of such restaurant, including food to be consumed on the premises of such restaurant or off of such premises.”
Will New York City chefs, in homespun white toques (chef hats) march down to the shores of Manhattan to demand their right to salt their fine cuisine and defend New York City’s reputation as the “restaurant capital of the world?"

Arguably responsible in part for the successes of modern civilization, salt has been more valuable than gold at points in history. It has preserved our food and helped to maintain our health while allowing our civilization to flourish. Yet today, the abundance of salt in our diet is killing us with high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.
