Ontology editor

Ontology editors are applications designed to assist in the creation or manipulation of ontologies. They often express ontologies in one of many ontology languages.

Knoodl facilitates community-oriented development of OWL based ontologies and RDF knowledgebases. It also serves as a semantic technology platform, offering a service based interface so that communities can build their own semantic applications using their ontologies and knowledgebases. Knoodl is a product of Revelytix, Inc. and is hosted in the Amazon EC2 cloud and is available for free.

WebProtege is an open source, lightweight, web-based ontology editor. Our main goal in developing WebProtege is to support the process of collaborative ontology development in a web environment.

NeOn is a 14.7 million Euros project involving 14 European partners and co-funded by the European Commission’s Sixth Framework Programme under grant number IST-2005-027595. NeOn started in March 2006 and has a duration of 4 years. Our aim is to advance the state of the art in using ontologies for large-scale semantic applications in the distributed organizations.

Protégé is a free, open source ontology editor and knowledge-base framework. The Protégé platform supports two main ways of modeling ontologies via the Protégé-Frames and Protégé-OWL editors. Protégé ontologies can be exported into a variety of formats including RDF(S), OWL, and XML Schema.
