それにしても、先進国で地方の地域社会がこんなに疲弊しているのは日本だけである。
この意味するところは、市場経済のもとで地方社会が疲弊するのは必然ではない、という事実でる。先進国における地方都市の基幹産業は農業だ。農業が元気にならないで、地方が元気になるわけがない。欧州の農村地帯に行けば、観光資源にもなるような美しい田園地帯がそこかしこに広がっている。耕作放棄地はまず見かけない。
地域経済、地域社会の鍵である農業が日本では衰退してしまった最大の理由は、農業の脆弱性を克服できなかったことにある。そして、農業の弱体化が地域を疲弊させ、公共事業依存にさせた。
なぜ、戦後、日本の農業は弱体化したのか。そのルーツは占領軍が政治的理由で実施した農地解放にあるのでは、と私は考えている。GHQ（連合国総司令部）は本州内で一町歩以下の零細自作農を創設し、自立不可能な農業構造をつくった。しかし、日本は独立後（サンフランシスコ講和条約調印後）、この間題に手をつけなかった。
農業における戦後体制の原点は、占領軍が農村の共産化を防ぐという政治目的を優先させて経済生産性が最初から成り立たない零細な農地を農民に解放したことにある。それが、私のいう「農業の戦後レジーム」である。 - Jun 23衆議院議員加藤公一の公式ブログ: ねんきん特別便

ロボットベンチャーのスピーシーズ（渋谷区鶯谷町）は6月19日、来年春に本格的サービス開始を予定する「ロボット放送」の概要を明らかにし、その「端末」となる家庭用メディアロボットの新機種を発表した。
ロボット放送は、「ロボット放送局」「ロボット放送番組」「家庭用メディアロボット」の3つの要素で構成される。ロボット放送局は、ロボットにさまざまなコンテンツを提供する放送局として展開し、ロボット放送番組は、ロボット放送局から配信されるロボット専用のコンテンツを指す。家庭用メディアロボットは、そのコンテンツを受信し再生する機器となる。来春の本格サービス開始に向けて、今月より試験放送を始めた。

Almost by chance, I learned just a week or so beforehand that the Seventh International Python Conference was being held in Clear Lake, just south of Houston, where I lived at the time. I registered and showed up, knowing nobody in the Python community. I felt right at home, and was able to talk to Martin Chilvers, the original author of Fnorb.
More crucially, it was at this conference that Paul Everitt announced that Digital Creations would be open-sourcing their web application server, Principia, under a not-yet-decided name. I had looked briefly at Bobo, the precursor to Zope's publisher, during the summer, and was interested in following the new development. I subscribed very early on to the main Zope list, and have been using / developing / promoting / cursing it ever since (in no particular order, sometimes all in one day :).

There are a lot of things to think about, of course, including the effectiveness (or lack thereof?) of carbon taxes; the environmental impact of a global food market; even whether it’s greener to drive than walk.
For the average person, the issue probably seems maddeningly tangled, large, and abstract. So we thought we’d strip things down here and ask a very simple set of pertinent questions of a variety of people — some of them well-known and others less so — each of whom thinks about the subject in a very personal way. Here are the questions we put to them:

I started urllib2 at CNRI sometime around 1999, based on some experience working Grail (a Python+Tk web browser). I had intended to polish it much more and replace urllib, but I ran out of time. When the PythonLabs team moved from CNRI to BeOpen, we needed to put that code in a Python release or negotiate with CNRI to take the code anyway. So it went into Python 1.6 in its rough form, and I moved on to other projects.
A mere ten years later, we've made some progress. urllib and urllib2 have merged together into a urllib package. The urllib2 code has become the default implementation in the new package. If you call urllib.request.urlopen(), you get urllib2 code.

This article discusses ZODB, a scalable and redundant object database that specializes in storing extensible objects, without the natural Object-relational impedance mismatch that can occur by attempting to make an Object Oriented Language and a Relational Query System map objects to relations.

The ZODB is a powerful object database for Python objects. It's very mature - it's been around for more than a decade. It is transactional, has advanced features like clustering (ZEO), blob support, and yes, it can be used independently from Zope. Zope 2, Zope 3 and Grok all use the ZODB as its default data storage, and it's seen a lot of battle testing.
As a result of various discussions in the past, I realized that some smart, informed people, seem to think the ZODB doesn't do what it actually does. The ZODB is really an object database. It really does get references between objects right. It's not an object store where references have to be indirect (a string, for instance). Somehow this misconception about the ZODB is widespread.

政府の地方分権改革推進本部（本部長・福田康夫首相）は11日、地方分権改革推進要綱案を公表した。地方分権改革推進委員会（委員長・丹羽宇一郎伊藤忠商事会長）が5月末に勧告した権限移譲項目の約8割をそのまま盛り込んだ半面、農地転用許可や森林行政などについては明確な方向性を示さないまま。農林水産省や族議員などの抵抗が根強く、結論を事実上先送りした。
政府が地方分権計画を決めるのは1999年以来となる。調整が難航した農地転用許可の移譲は「農地制度改革に合わせて、第一次勧告の方向により検討を行う」とし、一次勧告に比べてあいまいな表現にとどめた。増田寛也総務相、若林正俊農相が5月から6月にかけ4回も直接折衝したが、平行線のままだった。農水省が「大臣が信念を持ってやっている」（幹部）という「聖域」を崩せなかった。(07:00)

政府の地方分権改革推進本部（本部長・福田康夫首相）は20日午前、「地方分権改革推進要綱」を決定した。地方分権改革推進委員会（委員長・丹羽宇一郎伊藤忠商事会長）の第一次勧告を踏まえた政府の基本方針。同勧告は農地転用の許可権限や国道管理などの地方への移譲を求めたが、要綱は具体論には踏み込まなかった。最終的な分権計画策定へ向け、政府内の調整が難航するのは必至だ。
首相は要綱について「委員会の勧告の趣旨に沿って具体的な制度設計が行われるよう関係閣僚に先頭に立ってもらいたい」と述べた。今月下旬に決める政府の経済財政運営の基本方針「骨太方針2008」にも方向性を盛り込む構えだ。(11:09)

So Sweden just passed “lex Orwell” allowing their Gestapo^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hsecret service to put all electronic traffic coming in or going out of the country under surveillance (fellow Zopista and Swede Lennart Regebro has written about this as well). This is, by far, the most drastic law in this respect and I’m literally speechless. Fortunately, something like this would be quite unconstitutional in this country (but then again IANAL, so what do I know). Mind you, this hasn’t stopped the German coalition of the willing from passing a law on data retention whereby all telecommunication providers in Germany must store telecom data for 6 months and provide them to the authorities when necessary. And if you live in any other European country, chances are good your government has also passed similar laws as there’s a EU guideline that inspired the German law.
